● Objective type or subjective type.Have your say?

There is a never ending debate on whether objective type question is better or subjective type.I personally feel that objective type question has a edge over subjective type. The reasons are
1.In all the major institute like iit’s we have objective type paper.
2.In the entrance examination for post graduate courses like CAT we have objective paper so in order perform well in these all India examinations we must practice objectives.
3.In the technical section of campus interview companies set objective type paper.
For example tech mahindra in their techinal exam at heritage institute of technology gave
100 ojective to solve in 1 hour.so without prior practice it is impossible to solve so many questions in so short time.
4.most importantly if the question pattern is objective type then there is no scope for suggestion, student is compelled to go through the entire syllabus.
5.students often complain that there marks vary as different teachers give different marks on same answer.so by switching to objectives we also eliminate this problem.

In this context by objective I in no way mean mcq with one option correct.by objective I mean mcq with more than 1 option correct,assertion-reasoning,matrix match, short answer type question etc.By going for these options we also minimize the chances of guess work.
I know many of you think alike or otherwise.
Please let us know what u feel regarding this
matter.

I completely agree with you arnab...........I too think the same way.......Most of our important exams in life are objective.......and more stress should be given on objective rather than subjective and going to objective would sharpen our concepts more..........cause in subjective if we cant write anything then we beat around the bush but that wont be the case when its objective..........and more over there will be no scene of partiality or the teacher giving less marks ...In objective its either wrong or correct.....but here lies its negative point also... that there is NO STEP MARK.....I guess I have written to big a comment!!

i agree with you arnab...........and the point u hav raised is totally valid that objective doesnot necessarily mean mcq...dere shud b proper resoning, assertion type or something like dat like the iit's

Yeah.......Objective does not mean MCQ's..........this concept has long been abolished........see every big exams even the CAT.......there are these kinds of questions i.e. Assertion,etc,etc...and by STEP marks I meant everyone does not know all the correct answers. In case of any answer not completely known there could have been a possibility of some marks in subjective questions but that chance is obliterated in objectives.

listen, let us not compare wbut with other universities.. WBUT puts more stress on analytical skills... but they come to lil help as people mug things up.

i go for the motion...
anyone against it??

i am for the motion.... i support the objective type questions...... because people in wbut neither learns nor tries to learn anything..... the so called good students or 9 pointers know only one thing....MATRIX.... they mug up the entire book and then they vomit it in the exam..... this is a serious take and no kidding...... i have seen many 9 pointers having no basic understanding of the subject concerned....... actually the present wbut system stressses on cramming...... however engineering discpline requires thinking skills, concepts are the main thing....... so i think that by introducing objective type questions like the one proposed..... we will benfit a lot...... thus no suggestion,no matrix and most importantly no chotha in xam...... although you can hall collect some of the mcq s..
